Long distance love
If you’ve ever been in one, you understand how tough they can be, and A Fold Apart is able to portray that conflict — and ultimately how it comes together — beautifully.
A Fold Apart is maybe the most tear-jerking of all games in Apple Arcade right now, and that’s a quality I appreciate more than most.
From indies to AAAs and everything in between, these are our highest-scored games of 2020 A Fold Apart is about hope and how love can get us through even the toughest of times. In that way, it’s timeless.
The puzzles complement the story in some ingenious ways, and everything pushes you on to find out what’s going to happen next. This one’s going to make you think in a bunch of different ways and really what more do you want from a narrative driven puzzle game?
A Fold Apart really hit home for me. It’s the story of a long distance relationship and all of the trials and tribulations, the insecurities and doubts that people experience when apart from each other for so long. At its heart, it is a tale in communication and love. And I’m not ashamed to admit it made my eyes water a few times. — Annette
Also in The 25 Best Switch Games of 2020, The 20 Best Xbox Games of 2020, and The 25 Best PlayStation Games of 2020. A Fold Apart‘s adorable art style and characters coupled with a calming and meditative gameplay loop helped calm some of the anxiety I’ve been feeling about the world.
Sure, Animal Crossing might offer a wholesome, anthropomorphic escape from the coronavirus quarantine, but if you’re looking for content that speaks more directly to the phenomenon at hand, a Canadian developer has made just the video game for you.
I’d imagine that when Lightning Rod Games were initially developing A Fold Apart, they didn’t realise the real world similarities that the game would hold once it was released.
A Fold Apart isn’t just a series of puzzles with a story about long distance relationships, but a game about communication.

A Fold Apart brings you into a personal and deep story. It’s a story that invites you into a deep and meaningful relationship between two characters. It’s a game that’s real, and that’s why I love it.
Reviews
This game is excellent! It is an emotional rollercoaster with a superb soundtrack and some challenging puzzle mechanics which seem simple at first but soon get complex. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment I spent on this game and cannot recommend it highly enough! Well done to everyone involved!
I have a ling distance relationship and this game is so relatable for that! The figures in the game are long distance and the texting back and forth makes them feel lonely sometimes and some texts just hurt! But if you think about it your partner probably did not mean it that way good lesson really Love the look and the gameplay of this game too! Really pretty and it’s well executed! Can’t wait until there is more!
A real, in-depth look at the troubles that plague long distance relationships and the thought processes we usually run through in a matter of seconds. Here you really slow down and see how certain words/phrases can affect others (especially over text) and the emotional processes people go through when they react. Wonderful style with sweet music and a life lesson to boot. My only wish is that it would never end
The game has beautiful visuals! The story is very engaging and it makes you want to play until the end! Loved the game!!!
